I wish this manual had come out 4 weeks ago, but now that I have it (electronic access while I wait for the printed), I'm very glad to have it. The online materials keep getting better. The actuarial university is much better than the actuarial learning website - so cool how you can pull up definitions and then start new Goal sessions, etc. The manual is the key however. Now that it's linked to all the other materials, including the videos, it makes my learning much more efficient. No more hunting around for info. You have the right information in front of you. I'm glad the "ask a professor" functionality is still part of Goal. They respond quickly.
I'm using the e-manual and writing this review because I didn't realize actex had a product like this. I like their manuals, but never bought one - just borrowed a printed manual from a friend. The actuarial learning platform that my manual is hosted on is full of features that make learning sooo much easier. I wanted a print manual but the shipping was too expensive. So, I bought the electronic and I'm glad it did. I've only been studying for a day, but given how hard this exam is, I'm really glad that I have this new actex product.
I recommend getting the version of this manual with the videos - they are the best videos I've seen in terms of explanation.
let's face it; there is zero chance of passing FAM without exam prep. I've been using this manual, the videos, flashcards and goal for a couple months now; and I'm pushing my way through it, but will need to upgrade to the one year license. Clearly written and the videos by Weishas and Li are excellent. Everyone has their favorite exam prep, but Actex is mine.
The manual comes in 2 parts, L and S. But its all FAM, latest syllabus. I reached out to customer service and they responded quickly, explaining that the material is split. Combined it's a big exam, seems much more intense than FM.
Thank you Actex; quick review of this product is that it's very good, complete with videos, manual, goal, and formula sheets.
Continuing with ACTEX for exam FAM. I need these videos too. Lots a material for FAM. Bought printed that includes the 6 mos online access. That's helpful to me as I travel for work. I'm starting on the FAM-L material, haven't reviewed the FAM-s, yet. Good luck all...
The early review on this study manual is that I'm really glad I bought it with the videos. I like video learning but hate not having a really good study manusl too. This offers both and I'd recommend these video instructors; very, very helpful.
Delivery in two days! Got a lot to do, but customer service was excellent. I was emailed and kept up to do on when this manual would be available. Now that it's here, the work will begin…
Considering how much material I've got to learn, I feel like AcTEx has a program that makes sense and a study scheduler. As with FM, the scheduler is weighted by topic. I like that, but overall, I still need to keep a separate sheet of notes of topics I want to go back to. As before, I'm working my way through the study manual first. I've used these authors before and like their to the point writing style. Gets you where you need to be, quickly. Not a lot of fluff, but definitely enough so that you don't have to fill in the blanks or revert back to some other source. The Actuarial univ platform has been improved some too. I love the search by keyword feature.
