Introduction to Predictive Analytics Using Excel

Predictive Analytics is all the rage in the actuarial (and larger) world but what are they? Learn about the core models and concepts of Predictive Analytics and Modeling in this webcast, using a very familiar tool.

One barrier people often have in learning about Predictive Analytics is that they find they need to learn new software and programming languages to effectively implement these techniques. Unfortunately, many then spend a great deal of time having to learn new systems and not as much time understanding how the models work (and where they fail) until much later.

To provide an introduction to Predictive Analytics and Modeling, all examples will be implemented in Excel. While Excel is far from the best tool for implementation of these techniques for practical business uses, by using a familiar tool, you will be able to learn the concepts better and get a better feel for how these models behave. You can then determine for yourself if it will be worthwhile to invest more time and effort to go farther in this field.

Sampling of Predictive Modeling approaches to be covered:

  • Regressions—linear, logistic, and generalized approaches
  • Clustering
  • Decision trees
  • Evaluation of these models

Participants will receive the spreadsheets used in the webcast following the session so they can try out the models for themselves.

Who Should Attend:

Actuaries and non-actuaries who are interested in understanding the different approaches to predictive analytics, and who are more comfortable with using Excel than R or Python.
