The Live Component of this Bootcamp is taught by Anas Abdallah, who obtained his Engineering and master’s degree in Mathematical and Statistical Modeling from the Institut National des Sciences Appliquees (INSA), in France. He then decided to undertake a MSc. and then a PhD in Actuarial Science, in Canada. His applied thesis has been awarded the Hachemeister prize, by the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) in 2016, to recognize the impact on the actuarial industry in North America. Anas has extensive work experience in the insurance industry (2011-2018), where he had the opportunity to work in Corporate Actuarial Services, Research and Innovation team, and Actuarial Pricing & Segmentation department. He joined McMaster University in 2019 as an Assistant Professor in the department of Mathematics & Statistics and he is also the Actuarial and Financial Mathematics (AFM) program coordinator.

Sam Broverman, Ph.D., ASA
Professor Sam Broverman, PhD, ASA, brings 30+ years of university and exam prep teaching experience to bear to ensure that purchasers of this manual gain a thorough understanding of all the topics covered on the exam syllabus. He has been a Professor of Actuarial Mathematics since 1978, first at The University of Texas at Austin until 1980 and since then at the University of Toronto. Professor Broverman is an ACTEX author who has written numerous textbooks and study guides widely used by students preparing for actuarial exams.
I'm starting my 2nd exam with actuarial university and actex and I want to share. I like printed material, but now I find I'm studying much more online because I get the study manual and I can use the planner and keyword search to more quickly pull up the definition or run some quick practice sessions using Goal. I struggled at first downloading the app, but the support was good and it works great now that I've got it.
Another exam and I just got my access to FAM-S. They changed the UI and I like it better, just easier/faster to move around. Not many other changes other than that. I've used Actex for P and I really like the author - nothing is left unexplained. No gaps to have to fill in. Recommend this purchase.
I *almost* didn't by this manual + video set. Now… soooo glad I did. This is a hard exam - maybe bordering on ridiculously hard. The manual does what it should, taking you through it topic by topic by topic by topic. Soooo much content to prep for. I'll say this is my second time using Goal and it's especially helpful to me this time around. The videos are good... just know it's not a course per se; just drilled down videos on each key topic. I recommend this product.
Actex is the best!
the package came with much more than I expected - including videos. The GOAL program is GREAT. This is my third time using Actex manuals and GOAL.
very happy with the video instruction and Actex manuals are simply the best, most complete, easy to understand manuals.
the actuarial university lookup features are needed and glad that Actex has them. I'm kinda bumming how hard this exam is so far. The study manual is excellent. I've used Actex for exam P and it's really helpful. The goal product is linked with the study manual and that's hugely helpful as you work extra end of chapter exercises.

Best resource for FAM-S. I used Broverman for P too - he's super clear and not a lot of fluff. I'm not alone when I say that study manuals are the most efficient way to study. Videos even at 1.5 speed are a slow way to learn, even if the content is great. Basically, work your way thru this manual, use Goal to practice, raise your score to 70 or higher and you'll be primed to pass the exam. The goal professors are responsive to questions. Best of luck friends!
I was going to write a long review, but its late and I've lost my mojo. Ha! Anyway, just sharing with my peeps - as others have said this is a really great study manual program with everything you need to pass the exam. But start early, there's a lot to cover. But if you don't know that by now, you probably aren't prepping for this exam! ;)
